# Fregata Mobile documentation

> How to use Fregata Mobile, the free iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch app for Frigate and Fregata NVR — setup, live view, recordings, alerts and filters, widgets, Apple Watch, and fixing problems.

Fregata Mobile is a free, native app for both Frigate and Fregata NVRs: Frigate 0.17 or later, or
Fregata on a Mac. It shows your cameras live, lets you scrub through recordings, and sends alerts
with the picture and then a short video, on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. It talks to your server
directly: there's no Fregata account, and your video never passes through us.

## What you need

- An iPhone or iPad on **iOS or iPadOS 26** or later. The Apple Watch app needs **watchOS 26**.
- **Frigate 0.17 or later**, or any version of **Fregata**.
- Your NVR's **address**, and a **username and password** for it. An administrator account lets
the app set up alerts for you.

AI descriptions and running a shortcut when an alert arrives need iOS 27. Everything else works
on iOS 26. See [Compatibility](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/reference/compatibility/).

## Start here

- [Install Fregata Mobile](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/getting-started/install/): Join the free TestFlight beta. The Apple Watch app comes with it.
- [Connect your server](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/getting-started/connect/): The welcome walkthrough, step by step: addresses, sign-in, administrator or viewer.
- [Set up alerts](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/getting-started/notifications/): Let the app make the changes Frigate needs, or follow the steps yourself.
- [Away from home](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/getting-started/remote-access/): Tailscale, Cloudflare Tunnel and Access, or a reverse proxy.

## The app at a glance

_Picture: The Cameras tab: five cameras in a grid, each with its latest activity, the newest alerts along the bottom, and the four tabs._

1. **Cameras ⌄**: switch between camera groups and notification filters.
2. **Layout**: grid, list or column.
3. **A camera**: tap to watch it live.
4. **Recent Alerts**: tap one to open its recording.

The app has four tabs:

- **Cameras**: every camera, with what it last saw. Tap one for [live view](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/cameras/live/),
and its **History** button for [recordings](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/cameras/recordings/).
- **Review**: everything your cameras noticed, as alerts and detections. See [Review](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/cameras/review/).
- **Explore**: every object Frigate tracked, with search in your own words. See [Explore](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/cameras/explore/).
- **Settings**: your server, and how alerts reach this iPhone. See [Settings at a glance](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/settings/).

## Alerts, your way

Alerts are where most of the choices are, and most of them change only your own iPhone:

- [How alerts work](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/alerts/how-alerts-work/): The picture, the video that replaces it, the actions, and late or missed alerts.
- [Choose which alerts reach you](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/alerts/choosing/): Filters, snooze, quiet hours, Focus and turning a camera off: which to use when.
- [Notification filters](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/alerts/filters/): Home, Away and Sleep, per camera, object and zone, with levels and quiet hours.
- [Write your own alert wording](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/alerts/wording/): Templates and variables, with examples.

## Something wrong?

- [Alerts don't arrive](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/troubleshooting/alerts/): The checks in order, and the usual causes.
- [Can't connect](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/troubleshooting/connection/): Every connection message, and its fix.
- [Live video problems](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/troubleshooting/live-video/): Reduced quality, the fallback picture and stalling.
- [Getting help](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/troubleshooting/get-help/): GitHub Discussions, email, and sending a report.

For anything about your Frigate server itself, such as camera setup, zones, recordings or
storage, the [Frigate documentation](https://docs.frigate.video/) is the place to look.
