# Camera groups

> Show a few cameras at a time with camera groups — the same groups as Frigate's web interface, created, ordered and deleted from Fregata Mobile with an administrator account.

A camera group is a named set of cameras, such as **Outside** or **Doors**, that the Cameras tab
can show on its own. Groups belong to your server: they're Frigate's own camera groups, saved in
its configuration, so they're the same in Fregata Mobile, in Frigate's web interface, and for
everyone who uses the server. (Everyone on your server)

## Show a group

Tap the title at the top of the Cameras tab, **Cameras ⌄**, and choose a group. The tab shows
only its cameras, in the group's own order, and its title becomes the group's name.
**All cameras** shows everything again. The [Recent Alerts](https://mobile.fregata.app/docs/cameras/cameras-tab/#recent-alerts)
strip follows the group too.

Any account can show a group. The menu is only there once the server has a group, or for an
administrator, who can make one.

## Make or change a group

Creating, editing and deleting groups needs an administrator account. (Needs an administrator)

1. On the Cameras tab, tap the title and choose **New Group…**, or show a group and choose **Edit “Outside”…**.
2. Give it a **Name** and pick an **Icon**.
3. Under **Other cameras**, tap **+** beside each camera to add it.
4. Drag the handles under **In this group** to set the order.
5. Tap **Save**.

_Picture: Editing the group Outside: a note that groups are shared with everyone on this server, the name, a grid of icons with a leaf chosen, three cameras in the group with delete buttons and drag handles, two other cameras with add buttons, and Delete Group._

1. **Shared with everyone on this server**: a reminder that saving changes the group for every account and device, Frigate's web interface included.
2. **Name**: can't be only a number, contain a period, or be `default`, which Frigate reserves.
3. **Icon**: the same icons Frigate's web interface offers.
4. **In this group**: drag to reorder; the red button takes a camera out.
5. **Other cameras**: tap the green button to add one.

Saving writes to Frigate's configuration straight away; nothing restarts.

If the group includes Birdseye, or names a camera that's no longer on the server, the editor
says so and keeps it in the group: those are kept as they are rather than silently removed.

## Order or delete groups

**Manage Groups…** in the same menu lists every group. Drag them into the order you want: it's
the order both this app and Frigate's web interface offer them in. Swipe a group to the left, or
open it and tap **Delete Group**, to delete it. The app asks first, because a deleted group is
gone for everyone. The cameras in it aren't affected.

## If saving fails

- **only an administrator can change camera groups on this server**: you're signed in with a
viewer account. Sign in as an administrator in **Settings › Connection**.
- **The server said: …** or **The server answered with HTTP …**: Frigate refused the change,
and the message is its own reason.
